So I am half way through week three without going to the grocery. I would really like to think that I am in dire straits without having gone to the grocery for at least two weeks now, but the reality is I could go for much longer than a month without a trip to the grocery. Having made great strides with using up food from the fridge and freezer, this week I hope to turn my attention to canned and dry goods. Here’s a shot of the two pantries I have to work with:
There’s also another pantry above the stove that is almost all spices. Jeez! How did I get all this stuff? Well, this is the reason I started on this journey, to try to pare down the pantry.
This weekend I will try to prepare a big batch of spaghetti sauce to use up some of the canned tomatoes and such. I also need to work on that huge bag of quinoa you see there. I think I may have enough cilantro in the garden to make up a big bowl of my favorite quinoa and bean salad. In the next two weeks I hope to have the contents of these cabinets reduced significantly or I may have to extend my “no grocery” adventure. We’ll see.
Til’ next time…
